Kayaking star 2 course reflection by Lemuel Koh(3E5)(OAC)

This is the second time I have kayaking since OBS. It was held at pasir Ris beach not at changi beach. I was a little scared because of the reports that said thatthe waters there had a high level of entercocous bacteria.. For star 2, we split into 2 groups, it was good as I had a few of my good friends with me. Our instructor,May, reviwed all of star 1 kayaking skills and taught us new and interesting skills and strokes on how to control and propel the boat better. It was super cool! we also learnt rescue skills like the Eskimo bow rescue. During the last day, we went to Coney island, approx.3.3km away. That's where we did the rescue drills. It was an Exciting and informative experience for me. I would consider taking the kayaking star 3 course now..

I'm gOing tO talk abOut my kayaking Star 1 experience.. ^^ It was super tiring BUT fun!!! :D wOots.. (: We had tO get intO the water first tO get used tO the temperature and the mOvement Of the tide and stuff.. :p The water was like reali dirty and disgusting.. >.< Finally, we get tO kayak.. One super super SUPER hot Friday, OAC leaders plan a navigation trip around Woodlands. The entire OAC members was divided into 4 big group. There were 4 checkpoint to complete. Different groups have different sequence to follow.... Not really familiar with this place, so i just follow wherever the my group go....er... There were question to complete at every checkpoint.... The answer to each question can be found nearby.... After completing all 4 checkpoint, we play the playground.... In the end my group arrive at school last....End:D

Climbing- NurShabrina 1E5

Im in the climbing team , so i would like to take this chance to write about my experience , feelings and emotions that I've been through in my team .
Starting with my experiences , I've been through hard times with my team mates ,vry tiring training and a competition . Going through hard times was a disaster but , we managed to understand each others roblems and soon began to be friends again . :) Tiring training was every time of the sessions . I knew that complaining is not going to help me achieve my dreams of being a rock climber , so I make myslef believe that I make make through the training successfully . So far , I've only been involved in one competition . It was hard but I strived for the best . Looking at the other climbers climbing , it brought ideas to me on how to climb the walls .
We also learnt technics , taught by Ms Joanne , our coach for our team. She's great . By learning technics , im getting better in climbing . ^^
Im looking forward to more climbing .

Kayaking star 1

From: Grace lew Jin Jie

I attennded kayaking star 1 about three moth ago. It was very fun, i enjoy the learning process. The teacher teached us how to kayak properly and even teached us how to carry the boat. Although i am very small in size, but i stll managed to carry the boat and pour out the water in the boat, with the help of my OAC friends. The scarry part of this program is when we know that the water which we were suppose to kayak on have JELLY FISH and PRWNS, and one of my frend got sting by the jelly fish!!! I learned a lot of things at the end of the day! Although my kayaking skill is not so good as the teacher's, i even capsized several times, but i am very happy that i learned something. The most interesting part is when we saw all the tired face of the OAC students.

Kayaking Star 1.

Hi.Hello.Hi.Hello.Hi.Hello.

I've attended the kayaking star 1 course a few months ago.
It was from ten a.m. to five p.m. but we all have to meet at eight a.m. in school as we have to wait for people and for the transport.
Before we start on the course, all of us were excited as most of us did not tried kayaking before. When we reach there, most of us play there while some went to have their breakfast.
When we reach there, all of us were talking to each other to get rid of our nervousness.
When we start, we first learn how to capsize, and after that, we learned how to call for help if we are capsized with our peddles and kayak not floating away.
After that, we went for lunch and continued with our programme.
Next, We went to the canal to learn more skills for kayaking.
After that, some of us went for a bath before returning home and some of us even left our shoes there!
After that,it was time to go home and the next day continues...

Bye.Thanks.Bye.Thanks.Bye.Thanks.

Kayak Star 1

Last two Saturdays ago , I went to attend a two-day kayak course star 1 . I was late on my first day of course , I woke up 15 mins late then went back to sleep because I knw the bus would already have left me , then my mom woke me up again saying that Ms Noraida would fetch me .
Then I waited for Ms Noraida , she came with a cab , woohoo :) And we ate some keropok . Derick was also late so we went to fetch him . Upon my arrival at there , I saw Lyana and after I kept my belongings in the locker provided , I went to chichat with her and Vanessa . I was damn excited 'cause I saw so many chinese dudes , my taste siaa !!! So , I thought that the instructor would be a chinese dude too , skali got one old man , but he is a very , very nice instructor , he's name is Shukor which means Hope in malay .
After we introduce ourselves to Shukor and Shukor introduce us to him and the equipments , we headed to the shore . First we went to play a lil' bit of splashing of water then we learnt how to capsize , damn shiok . Initially Ms Noraida , can't capsize , we were suppose to get out of the boat during under water , but Ms Noraida was still there when Shukor turned the boat back , LOL
After kayak and kayak we when back to school , then me Lyana , Vans and Trevor went to McDonald to have our dinner . At there , we saw Ms Noraida and some of our OACmates , at first we didn't have a place to eat , then we wen to check out at CWP B1 then Ms Noraida called to tell us that Faiz and Hadii chop place for us ready , SO THANK YOU SO MUCH GUYS :)

Kayaking 1. 4 & 5 september 2010.

Kayaking one was a different experience from our kayaking sessions for class camps. It was a challenge to learn skills other than just directing your Kayak frontwards and backwards and apply it during the test. Scariest thing, of course, was the risk of capsizing at any point of time. The wind and waves that could come at any point made it even more challenging. But thank God for the amazing weather we had and the smooth waves that made the whole session fun. We pretty much learnt most of our skills on the first day. We got the oppurtunity to practice and play on the second day. The test was carried out in 15 minutes and it was then the end of the kayaking session.
The best part was going home with the feeling of achievement after passing the test.

Kayaking Star 2 by Yi Chien :D

It was a great time learning all the skills that we had to learn during the session. We learned alot of rescuing skills and strokes.Although the water was dirty,we had alot of fun capsizing, rescuing and practising our skills. We got sunburn badly at Pasir Ris beach. We also had an expedition to an island ad it was very fun and tiring, we also got to trying on different roles. (Example: Leader, Side men and Last men) Althought at the end of the day, it was tiring, but it was worth it and I got my cert.!!!I'm looking forward to Kayaking Star 3 for more capsizing, rescuing etc. :DD

Kayaking Star 1

I was looking forward for this course during the September holidays but wasn't looking forward to the scorching sun. Before the kayaking course started, i applied plentiful of sun block because i didn't want to be dark! My instructor was shukor, a very understanding and nice man who guided us. Everyone must be able to capsize and get back on the shore. The sea water was so salty and also dirty. We learned about side-sweeping, kayaking front and back and to be able swim 50m away from the shore. The next day, it rained but we still proceeded on and kayak. It was freezing cold and it drizzle a little. In the afternoon, the rain subsided and we played around after we all pass our test. I must say that the sea made me seasick and dizzy. Carrying of the kayaks was also tiring as it was very heavy. After a very long day spent in the sea, we were very famished so i went to MacDonald with Lyana, Musyirah and Trevor. We saw hady and clique at there too :-)

CRC by gin teo seok yee

I remember CRC fondly. It was a really memorable experience. I had mixed feelings as I glanced at the towering wood with trepidation. I have always relished high places; they let me see things from another perspective. I tried various high elements and I liked it. The wind flitering through your hair felt nice and cooling on your skin. We were split into different groups and each group was given a different high elemnt to complete. After my turn I helped with managing ropes. The teamwork between the belayer and the anchor was good, everyone was organised, friendly and I applaud the Secondary 1s' courage. I'm sure everyone had fun and it was a pleasant activity. :3

Navigation Skills - Sembawang/Woodlands

SpÖr┬s Çlimb~♪♪♪♪♪(Valent Tan)

Ther is an upcoming competition for the sports climb group and there is no training currently due to he exams but i'm going to do core training in order to maintain my physical fitness... I wish the training will resume soon and i woul;d be able to lead climb before the competition as the competition only have lead climbing and does not have top rope and theres i few skills i would like to remember such as drop-knee and twisting? Anyways the sprots climb people do you want to meet up soon and climb together? And you guys better remember to do core training!!! Hwo i wish the ngee ann rock wall and that i can climb it again because its so challenging that it is fun and i wish that we would do remind each other of the skills and work hard in order to reach our goal.

Climbing - Nur Syahrazar (2N6)

Since I'm on the climbing team, I would love to talk about climbing! So I'm going to start off with what my experience followed by feelings and emotions. My experience for climbing is, we had competitions going on but I was not able to come for one of the competitions but I had once, in the tag team climbing competition. It was really fun even tho there were a few climbers that were more superb than us. They climbed really well and I learnt some of their technics by watching them climb. I feel that this is a start for me because, I just joined the climbing team this year and I know that I can do well after a lot of sessions of practicing and climbing. During the climbing sessions, I learnt a few techniques that is being taught by my instructor, Ms Joanne. I learnt how to do bouldering, matching footwork, drop knee and restricted climbing. For bouldering, we had to start from the left of the rock wall and walk vertically to the end of the rock wall. For matching footwork, we had to climb and either start from the left foot or the right but I usually start with the left so when I climb, I need to climb with matching foots together at the same rocks I stepped. It was really fun being in the team because there was a lot of bonding together and we had to motivate each other which adds to the fun of the climbing.

first aid by Natashah Erika Lee

first aid was a great experience for me, cause i got to learn alot of new things, such as how to bandage a broken leg? a broken wrist ? we even had to ''kiss'' a mini anne for CPR. we even stripped the clothes of the mini anne and changed clothes foe it! we even took care of the baby dolls he gave us. it was very interesting as the teacher made it fun for us , he made jokes and made us laugh alot! it was easy learning the skills due to the fun he created. when we had the examinations for the first aid we had to be pin drop silent , so that the examiner could hear us talking , we actually had to be quite but it was a little boring for us so we hid in the cabinet and made alot of noise , the fact that we hid in the closet was slightly scary because we turned off the lights and sat inside reading books and listening to music. we all passed when the day ended. it was a fun and enjoyable experience!

June camp and First aid and kayak 1 by shirley 1E4 (17)

it was fun but when i was fishing i caught then fish but because i did not use a hook it swim away. The best part was that when miss chan and some of odac people like addison, vera them playing twister it was fun as they all got tangle together the food that miss chan cook was great it was fun and memorable.

The first aid was fun and that when we were fooling a little around when we have break we play blind mice and of couse we tried pulling the teacher into the game and when he was teaching it was fun as that time addison was bandage by the trainer we all even took the chance of filming it now i am already pass my first aid i was happy.

the kayak was fun but when we were back we were all tanned and sun burn it was fun but when we turn the kayak over it was tiring i learn tomove to the left and right, front and back it was fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- Kayaking Star 2 - Toh wan sin

Woo hoo .. time for kayaking ! Our instructor was called May, and at first, maybe she gave me the impression that she was not super friendly. but as time goes by, she's ok ba .. we did something new for the kayaking, which was to wear a black skirt. The black skirt hor! need to wear until chest high .. For the first day, we did recaption of the things we learnt in star 1. For the second day, we did capsizing and then on this day, quite a lot of us went to purposely capsize (to empty of kayak). Carry on to third day, we did capsize drill again. We learnt the eskimo thingy and i think i like to capsize!! We were aso taught on how to rescue swimmers and i acted as a swimmer before, thn i swam to my destination XD. At the end of the day, i got my cert !!!

Navigation Skills

An Awesome day. the Entire oac was split into a total of 4 groups Each group was given 4 MGR and they are suppose to find out where they are suppose to go and they are suppose to follow the sequence so that they wont see each other while walking.! the four places were all nearby school and at every checkpoint there is question for them to do. the answers to the questions can be found in the surroundings of their checkpoint. the kids had fun walking to places and at checkpoints playing the playground there. losing focus of that they are suppose to do there. the groups skipped staions and found the shortest route avalible.

Amirul Haziq (First Aid course)

During the june holidays, OAC had a first aid course from the 16th to the 18th of june. I had tons of fun having been able to tie up Addison in bandages. Our instructor was mr Mahendran. An ex-first aider. He was the best instructor a student could ask for. Whenever we had free time, he would tell us stories about his past experiences. Some stories were happy, sad but most were scary. What I couldn't take was having to see gorish pictures. But all I can say is that I hope that OAC will host more courses like this with mr Mahendran as the instructor. I hope I can put my new found skills to good use to help the people who need help. The best part is that I'm certified to use the AED.

kayak 1/2 and first aid

kayak star 1 is very awesome and interesting.i learnt new skills and more on kayak.at first,i thought that kayaking was easy but after the first few lessons taught, it really takes a lot of determination, skill work and hardwork.however, kayak is also a very fun sport to do.i've learnt to move sideways with the use of the paddle,do a 360 degrees turn and how to go straight.i also learnt various types of boats for example the dancer use by the trainer.

first aid is a very important skill to be learnt as they help us in varius way. for exaple is soemone get hurts or it is an emergency.i also learnt that first aid requires a lot of skill and perserverance as you have to memorised the steps and try not to get it wrong.the first aid skill is udeful hence easy to be done.

kayaking star 2 by nicholas nan

This is The second time i have kayaking since kayaking star 1. this time, it is at pairs beach not at changi beach. For star 2, we split into 2 groups. luckily i few of my good friends were the same team with me. Our instructor,May, re caped all of star 1 kayaking and taught us new and interesting moves on how to control the boat better. we also learn many rescue skills. my favourite was the kayak to swimmer rescue. The `victim' have to swim out to shore and wait, shout for rescue. but i have difficultly do recoveries, which means if the boat is tilted suddenly we do a recover. but may taught me patiently and at the end of the day, i finally master it. during the last day, we went to an island 3 km away. that's where we did the new rescues. it was a fun and informative experience for me. i am now considering kayaking star 3 now..

Knots

Recently, we had learnt 3 different knots. I find all the knots are important for us. For example, the knots can be used for creating a flagpole. The leaders were very patient with us and taught us how to tie the knots. The leaders were also organised as they keep to their time plan. I find the activity was well organised and well planned. We learnt how to create a flagpole with all the knots learnt in about 20 to 25 minutes. Although the knots were hard to tie, it can be very important in our lives.
Zafira Amelia (3/4)

Nagivation skills

I recently did navigation skills and I've learned alot of things. Even though I was one of the leaders who conducted it, I also followed them and saw how they did the nagivation skills together. It was full of excitement as because we were going out of school to do it.
One of the things that we did to find the checkpoints was MGR which also stands for Map Grid Reference. Many were kind of lazy to walk and some were unwilling to co-operate and I had to convince them that this was a challenge for all of us but the most important thing was to have fun and make sure you've at least learn a thing or two.
One of the checkpoints was the playground. Many were tempted to play it but I'm glad they managed to resist the temptation of going to play to the playground. We also bonded alot together even though we've already known each other. But it's the only time when we can spend together because most of us have other friends to hang out after school. I am also glad that our Fridays are CCA days, it's like we spend an entire day with our CCA mates and I think it feels great.
I'm glad all of them had fun doing the nagivatin skills and going out and finding out the little mysteries that we need to solve in order to get the prize. I hope there will be something like this again, tiring but enjoyable.

Climbing , CRC & Navigation Skills .

I learnt a lot of things from climbing , CRC & navigation skills
We learn all the basic stuffs from this cca .
Although sometimes it is quite boring to learn all this.
But at the end of the day , we learnt something .
For the CRC , the experience was pretty scary for the first time.
But this helped me to overcome my fear for height .
For navigation skills , we went out wth only the maps and no location .
For this , the group work together to find the location and the questions .
In oac , we have time to bond and work together with the groups .
Although sometimes the program which is planned could not be carried out ,
At least the leaders spent time together to plan for the program for us .

Kayaking1

Day1:We arrived at christ church early in the morning. After a long journey,we arrived at our destination. We go through our introductions and after many rules explained. We went to beach to start our event,we went in the water to have some fun. After that we got into our boats and we learned how to move forward, backward, left and right.

Day2:We gather our boats when we reached our venue, and gather at the beach. The water was choppy and it was drizzling. We went through our moves again and got ready for our test.I was last to take my test as i kept bumping into people. My instructor was patient with me even through i was performing badly. But i pass eventually. This event will be forever etched in my memory.

i learnt a lot from Kayaking, BFA and Climbing ! Yay!
It was really fun! and we get to do climbing today too!! it was fun although i only did the role of a rope man.. But its okay, At least i had fun.. Hope we can do this more in the future.. I like the first aid course in june holidays during 16-18 june, as it is very meaning ful as i finally know how to treat people with snake bites, head injury and a lot more of taping, caring and shouting for people to call the ambulance and to bring a cup of milo along ^^.. I get to learn alot about surviving when in the open wild without any help and rescue and to make a raft and to survive it the strong waves of the waters of the wild.. on the second day of kayaking, an incident happened while we were doing the rescue, one of my team mates supposed to be the capsized, got stung by a jelly fish.. Her wounds are treated as soon as we reached shore.. But i hope she has forgotten about the incident... but still its my my fault that she has got injured...

Kayaking star 1

Kayaking star 1 was very hard,I would like to take kayaking star 2 as kayaking is really fun. I am very happy that I am in oac as I have learnt to do various types of paddling. I also learnt how to empty the water out of a kayak. I had a lot of fun. I also learnt how to save someone from a capsized boat. I capsized a lot of times to practice my skills. My instructor was mr. shukor. We learnt how to move forward, reverse, sideways and raftup.

Knots o' doom (jkjk)

Okay,...knots...
I learnt to tie some knots, they are useful at times (of course). If I never learnt this knots, when I need to use them I wont know how to tie them...stuff like that. Well...it was well organized, not very messy. Okay, thats all I thought of, I had fun.

Learning to tie knots from OAC from Abraham

Knots:Knots are very difficult to tie for me but yet knots are very important.During OAC,the station leaders thought us how to tie different types of knots, unfortunately
I was always bad in tying knots so I messed up sometimes.Miss Phua also oganised a competetion between groups to make a flag pole using some string, rope, some wooden poles and the skills we learnt from the station leaders.Unfortunately,I can't remember which group won but I still learned new skills.

oac camp and kayaking star 1 haiqal

Camp was very fun and i enjoyed it alot. i was put in charge of one of the games and i am happy that people had fun. the barbecue was also very fun, and the food tasted awesome. i also went for kayaking star 1. it started out as a bit difficult, but after a while the instructor was very encouraging. i started enjoying it and the nearby hawker centre definitely helped. on the second day i had a lot of fun and i am very happy that i completed the kayaking star 1.

Knots Skills Reflection ( Rayson Low )

We learnt a lot of kinds of knots on that day. That day was a tiring day but a enjoying experience as there was nice and helpful leaders. They teaches us patiently which made my skills on knots improved a lot. There was lots of stations and it was a well-orgainised activity which I am happy with it!

Kayaking Star 2!!!~~~

The first day we went to the Pasir Ris water Venture, I was very excited and nervous at the same time as I had not been kayaking since kayaking star 1... The instructer came and then we started to kayak at the sea and pick up the skills that we learnt in Kayaking star 1. The next day, the instrustor went through the theory corsework and learnt the Star 2 skills. The next day, we went on a 6km expidition to Coney island. I got a waterproof bag to put behind my kayak on the way to the island. It was quite tiring but very fun. I learnt many skills there like how to go keep your kayak going very straight, using little strength to overturn the kayak. we also learnt about the tides and waves. It was very enjoyable...
